TIN SHED TO
TRANSFORMATION
From One Woman’s Dream to a Lifelong Mission of Love and Learning
The story of our school began not with buildings, blackboards, or big plans—but with a mother, a chair, a table, and five curious children under a tree. In 1992, Kanchan Bharadwaj saw children from the local slum—some picking rags, others wandering the streets—deprived of even the most basic right: education. She decided to change that.
With little more than passion and purpose, she began teaching under the open sky. Over time, her efforts grew into a community school, a sanctuary of learning for the most underserved children. She called them “her children”, and dedicated her life to them—heart, soul, and every waking moment—until her passing in 2011.
A Daughter’s Promise
"The earliest memories of my childhood are of my mother working passionately for her school. I grew up being one of ‘her children’."
After her death, I stepped into her shoes—only to realize how difficult and demanding this journey truly is. These children face more than just poverty—they live through neglect, hunger, and countless disadvantages. Providing them with a stable, nurturing, and proactive learning environment is a daily challenge. But every smile, every curious question, and every moment in the classroom makes it all worth it.
Our School Today
We now run a tin shed school with 181 children from Classes Nursery to 8th. While the space is modest, the dreams it shelters are enormous. Our goal is simple but powerful — to provide at least the basics to every child who walks through our door.
📘 Free textbooks and notebooks
✏ Stationery and learning materials
👕 School uniforms
🪑 Tables, benches, and a dignified classroom space
But more than that—we strive to give them hope, dignity, and the power of knowledge. We don’t just want to make these children literate—we want to truly educate them, so they grow up to be compassionate, capable, and responsible members of society.
